COSSETTE DOMINATES CREATIVITY COMPETITION

Cossette Communication-Marketing cleaned up last week in the annual Coq d'Or competition for the best in French advertising creativity. What's more, Cossette's traditional rival for domination of the competition, BCP, was almost shut out. Cossette took 14 of 45 coqs (roosters) awarded at a gala staged by the competition's organizer, the Publicité-Club de Montréal. Cossette and BCP are Quebec's two largest ad agencies and they each usually walk away from the gala with an armful of prizes. However, this time BCP took only one award, a bronze coq in the retail campaign category. Bos took home the second largest number of coqs: four gold, two silver and one bronze. Cossette had four golds, five silvers and five bronzes. The agency also took top prize in the television and radio divisions of the prix du public category in which winners are chosen by members of the public. Cossette's TV winner was done for McDonald's Restaurants and the radio winner was done for Bell Mobility. Publicité Martin won in the newspaper division in this category with advertising done for the Fédération des producteurs d'oeufs du Québec (Quebec Egg Producers Federation). Taxi took the magazine division with ads for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Bos won the out-of-home division with advertising for the Energizer battery. Other multiple ss winners were: Marketel (two golds, two silvers and one bronze); Promotion Blitz (two golds and two bronzes); Taxi (one gold and one silver); and PALM Publicité Marketing (two silvers and one bronze). PNMD/Publitel and Sprint Communication Marketing took one gold each. Tam Tam Publicité, Télé-Métropole, FCB Direct and FOUG picked up single silvers. Publicité Martin, LG2 and St-Jacques Vallée Young & Rubicam each won a bronze. Cosimo Cavallaro of Figaro won the best director award. L'Oreille Cassée took a prize for best musical composition. Josée Morin had the winning illustration and Tilt the best photography.
