REYNOLDS TRIES LOW-SMOKE
By Adnews Staff
U.S.based R.J. Reynolds Tobacco will begin testing a low-smoke cigarette next week. The company is hoping to avoid legal hassles by not making any health claims in advertising. The test will take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with the cigarette costing 10 cents more a pack than regular cigarettes. Advertising is being done by Mezzina/Brown of New York. Called Eclipse, the cigarette doesn't give off any second-hand smoke and is low in tar and nicotine. Eclipse heats the tobacco rather than burning it, and doesn't produce an ash.
