TOY STORY HITS VIDEO SHELVES

The video version of Walt Disney's animated movie hit "Toy Story" landed on retail shelves across North America earlier this week. In a press release, the company said initial orders for the video exceeded 21 million cassettes, surpassing the 20 million initial units shipped for the video release of "The Lion King." "Toy Story" earned almost $200 million at the box office last year. Starring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the movie is the first full-length, animated feature created entirely by computer. In Canada, a national mall poster campaign touting the video's release began two weeks ago. TV and print ads for the video began appearing last week. In addition, Heinz Canada will be running television tie-in support ads. Heinz, Burger King, Kodak Canada, Energizer, Coca-Cola Canada and Disney will be offering Canadian consumers refunds with their products when they buy the video. Ads for the video were created in-house. Western International Media of Toronto performed the media buy.
