The Vancouver-based Palmer Jarvis Group worked with Paul Mercs Promotions and Panther Productions to put on The Big Sky concert, which agency president Frank Palmer notes was the largest gathering of Canadian musical talent ever assembled. There were about 30 "big acts" and an equal number of new ones. The event, which ran Aug. 5-7, was part of the 325th anniversary celebrations of the Hudson Bay Co., a Palmer Jarvis client. Other sponsors were Molson Breweries, Coca-Cola, Cantel, Revlon, the federal government and Chrysler Canada. A radio, television and newspaper campaign promoted the event which was also featured in The Bay's own corporate ads. Radio promotions were run on 150 stations across Canada.
