QUEBEC CHANTEUSE APPEARING IN PITCH FOR RESTAURANTS

Quebec superstar Céline Dion, who has been singing for her supper for years, will start singing the praises of her own restaurants on Sept. 8. That's when a new ad campaign for Nickles will begin, featuring the bilingual Quebec songbird. While Dion is one of five partners in the chain of delicatessen-style eateries, which have her pictures on the walls and her songs in the jukeboxes, this will be the first time she appears in advertising for them. The new campaign will use television, radio and bus signs. The campaign was created by Tam Tam Publicité which beat out four other Montreal agencies to win the $1.2-million account last month. The others in the competition were Allard Communication-Marketing, Génération Pub, Communications bleu blanc rouge and Groupe Rinaldi Communication Marketing. With 22 outlets in the Montreal area, Nickles plans to expand into Ontario and perhaps the United States in the next couple of years. The first restaurant opened about four years ago and the chain has grown rapidly in the past two years.
