Premiers conduct health care campaign

The Ottawa-based Council of the Federation, which comprises the 13 provincial and territorial premiers of Canada, has begun a new campaign intended to raise awareness of the need for additional health care funding. The campaign will consist of online, print, radio and billboard advertising. The effort encourages the federal government to increase the Canada Health Transfer so that its share of provincial and territorial health care costs moves from 22% to 35%.

“On behalf of all premiers, I again call on the Prime Minister to deliver on his commitment to meet with us to address this fundamental priority of every province and territory, for the benefit of all Canadians,” said Heather Stefanson, Premier of Manitoba chair of the council. “The long term sustainability of our health care systems cannot be maintained while the federal government's share of health care funding continues to decline.”
