TSN readies TSN2

Toronto-based sports specialty channel TSN will launch a new digital channel called TSN2 on Aug. 29. The 24-hour channel will offer programming in high definition and standard definition, consisting of live coverage of the NHL, CFL, NBA, NASCAR, curling and tennis, among other events. The channel will also carry repeat programming from TSN. "Fans want and crave live coverage of sports," said Phil King, president of TSN. "The days of tape delayed sports coverage on television are over. By taking the TSN alternate feed to a full-time service in TSN2, we are better positioned to serve sports fans by being able to consistently provide live coverage of two events taking place concurrently." TSN will promote the launch of the new channel with a marketing campaign consisting of print, radio, Web, and outdoor advertising, along with public relations. TSN2 will also be promoted on various CTV channels, including CTV, NHL Network, ESPN Classic, MuchMusic, MTV, Discovery Channel and The Comedy Network. TSN is a division of CTVglobemedia.
