By Adnews Staff
CBC Sports, ParticipAction and True Sport will conduct a special event called "Sports Day in Canada" on Sept. 18, intended to encourage Canadians to participate in recreational sports. The day will conclude a week of national sporting events and activities, as well as open houses and demonstrations. A website has been constructed at <http://www.cbcsports/sportsday> to encourage local organizations to become involved in the event. In the nine weeks leading up to Sports Day, CBC Sports will broadcast a variety of programs and vignettes featuring Canadian sports stories. Viewers will also be encouraged to wear a sports jersey or team uniform on Sept. 17. On Sports Day, CBC Sports will air a two-hour program profiling several cities that represent the value of community sports. Sports Day in Canada will be conducted in association with the Canadian Soccer Association, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and Coaching Association of Canada. Agencies working on the initiative include TrojanOne, Hill & Knowlton Canada and IMI International.
