International News: Olympic committee produces short list of four agencies

The International Olympic Committee, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, has invited four agencies to submit proposals for a global integrated marketing communications campaign: Havas, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi and United. The committee selected this short list from the firms that responded to a request for information in October. The four agencies will present their plans in the first quarter of 2007 with the goal of breaking the campaign later in the year. The campaign, which will be the fifth of its kind commissioned by the committee, is intended to communicate the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship to a global audience, with a particular emphasis on reaching 12- to 19-year-olds. The upcoming initiative is expected to consist of television advertising, online materials, word-of-mouth and experiential activities, as well as public relations.
