Whistler Blackcomb conducts street promotion in Vancouver

British Columbia ski resort Whistler Blackcomb began a street promotion in Vancouver on Nov. 18 to promote the early opening of Whistler Mountain. Promotional workers with skis, poles and artificial snow distributed two-for-one lift coupons and other items to pedestrians at intersections, SkyTrain station exits and media outlets. “Our goal was to emphasize to Vancouver skiers and boarders that the excessive rain in the city means an abundance of snow in Whistler, enough in fact to open earlier than anticipated,” said Ken Bailey, manager of North American sales at Whistler Blackcomb. “The promotion was designed to attract immediate public attention, make a lasting impression and encourage people to take advantage of the early start to the season. In addition, we were able to obtain some excellent radio and TV coverage of the promotion, so overall we consider it a huge success.” The campaign, which was created by Traction PR of Vancouver, will continue intermittently through the ski season. The promotional workers will be used in support of special events and offers each month from December to April.
