CANCER SOCIETY INTRODUCES TOLL-FREE LINE

The Canadian Cancer Society launched its toll-free Cancer Information Service this week to give Canadians the latest information about cancer. By calling a 1-888 number, users can obtain information on cancer prevention, detection, treatment and community resources. The information is provided by information specialists at call centres in Regina, Montreal, Vancouver and Hamilton, Ont. The phone line is being promoted using wallet cards and pamphlets available through volunteers and doctors' offices. The materials were created by Baler & MacMillan Communications of Toronto. Sears Canada and Heinz Canada are sponsors of the service. Sears will promote the phone line in its catalogues and flyers. Heinz will promote the service using consumer promotions.
