AT&T EYEING STAKE IN CANTEL

Toronto-based Rogers Communications may be selling a minority stake IN its national cellular phone company to AT&T Canada, according to a story in The Toronto Star. AT&T could acquire up to a third of Rogers Cantel, Canada's largest wireless telecommunications company. A deal could be announced in mid-November. AT&T has said that it wants to get into the wireless communications market, but it doesn't have a cellular or PCS licence in Canada. The deal would give Rogers access to state-of-the-art PCS network equipment and would free Rogers from having to take on additional debt to finance this investment.
