Beer Store launches anti-deregulation website

Toronto-based The Beer Store has launched a new website intended to argue against the sale of beer, wine and liquor at corner stores and gas stations. The site, located at <http://www.ontariobeerfacts.ca>, addresses topics including price, selection, tax revenues, age verification and recycling.

"There's been a lot of misinformation about beer prices in Ontario and we need to make sure that Ontario residents have the facts," said Jeff Newton, president of Canada's National Brewers. "Convenience stores like to let Ontario residents believe that beer prices would go down if alcohol were to be sold in corner stores, but they would not. This new website shows these negative consequences so Ontarians can judge for themselves."

The Beer Store is the trading name of Brewers Retail, which is jointly owned by Labatt and Molson Coors, with Sleeman Breweries holding a two percent stake.
