City of Toronto begins electronic recycling campaign

The City of Toronto's Solid Waste Management Services Division has begun a campaign called "Chuck and Vince" to encourage residents of the city to recycle their electronic waste. The campaign, developed by Publicis Canada, includes print and online advertising, as well as a series of online videos. The creative is intended to parody "we-want-your-gold"-style commercials. It features two garbage collectors who say, "We want your unwanted electronics." The campaign informs Toronto residents that the city offers free pick-up and recycling of  electronics put by the curb on garbage day. "It was the perfect opportunity to bring a local, homespun flavour to a simple message," said Pat Pirisi, creative director at Publicis Toronto. "The genre of commercials we parody allow us to be shamelessly heavy-handed with our message without being trite."
