Sankofa Square hires D.PE Agency

The City of Toronto has retained D.PE Agency as the creative and brand agency of record for Sankofa Square, a location formerly known as Yonge-Dundas Square. The agency will conduct a rebranding campaign for the location promoting the new name. The campaign will consist of six phases, beginning this month with a teaser campaign called “Embrace the Possibilities.” Subsequent elements will include media relations, visual identity development, brand strategy and corporate partnerships. In early 2025, the new name will officially launch with full brand campaign.
“Sankofa Square’s new identity is much more than renaming a public space,” said Sankofa Square general manager Julian Sleath. “It is about connecting communities, reflection and forward movement. The word Sankofa is a phrase that encourages learning from the past to inform the future. After a competitive RFP process, it was clear that D.PE Agency was the right partner to help us develop this great moment in Toronto. With its history of working with culturally connected and knowledgeable professionals, D.PE Agency’s team is committed to inspiring positive change to ensure the Square’s sustainability into the future.”
