SYMPATICO HOME PAGE HAS ROOM FOR ADS

Bell Canada is now in the advertising business. The home page for Bell's new Internet service, Sympatico, is carrying ads. MediaLinx Interactive, which is selling the ad space, says in a release that it has designed "a unique advertising rate card structure that combines image advertising with direct response." MediaLinx is a subsidiary of Bell Canada Enterprises. It is funded by the nine companies that make up the Stentor consortium, including Bell Canada. Sympatico is operated by the Bell subsidiary Bell Sygma. The Sympatico home site ads are designed with icons, banners and links back to the advertisers' home sites. The first companies to secure a place on the Sympatico home page are Bank of Montreal, Apple Computer, Bayshore Trust, Bell Canada, Mastercard and Wiley Publishers.
