Home Depot, CBC resume backyard rink promotion

Home improvement retailer The Home Depot and CBC program Hockey Night in Canada have resumed their joint “Backyard Rink Building Contest” for a fourth year. The initiative began on Jan. 13 and will run until Feb. 8. Consumers can enter by submitting a photograph of their homemade skating rink and a story about its construction at the website <http://www.cbc.ca/backyardrink>. In addition, The Home Depot will distribute rink building instructions in its stores and on its website. One winner from each province and territory will receive a prize package consisting of four Hockey Night in Canada branded scarves and toques, a blanket, an autographed jersey, a DVD trivia game, a clock and a $100 Home Depot gift card. The grand prize winner will receive a trip for four to a 2007 Stanley Cup Final game, including airfare and accommodation, as well as the prize package above and a $1000 Home Depot gift card. “The Backyard Rink Building Contest has become a highly anticipated event for our viewers,” said Jennifer Downton, customer marketing manager for sports at CBC Television. “It is amazing to see the enormous efforts that go into building these rinks from coast to coast, and this year we will showcase more of them on Hockey Night in Canada, raising the stakes for the competition.” The finalists will be announced during the Feb. 18 broadcast of the program and the grand prize winner will be announced during the March 3 broadcast.
