DIY Network Canada readies promotional contest

Specialty television channel DIY Network Canada will begin a promotional contest on April 1 called "Canada's Ultimate DIY'er." The national promotion will be conducted in association with home improvement retailer The Home Depot. Consumers can enter the contest online at <http://www.diy.ca> by submitting before and after photographs of a do-it-yourself project that they have completed, as well as an explanation of why they should be selected as the winner. The contest will close on April 30. A judge from The Home Depot will select a winner based on style, creativity and accuracy. The winning project will be featured on the DIY.ca website, while the winner will receive $10,000 in Home Depot gift cards and $5,000 worth of tools from Milwaukee, Ridgid and Ryobi. Ten additional randomly-selected entrants will win $500 gift cards. "DIY Network and The Home Depot recognize that DIYing and home remodeling have become popular trends amongst homeowners and strive to provide the information and tools needed to master home renovation," said Solange Bernard, director of marketing for lifestyle channels at Canwest Broadcasting. "This national contest gives us the opportunity to celebrate DIYers and encourage more Canadians to take on their own DIY projects." The contest will be promoted in Home Depot stores nationally through the distribution of 390,000 postcards. In addition, a 30-second television commercial will run on various Canwest specialty channels. Online promotion will include social media activities as well as advertising on Canwest websites, AOL Network websites and NHL websites. Online video advertising will be seen on websites affiliated with VideoEgg.
