MONDEX IS DOWN TO THREE
By Adnews Staff
Three Toronto agencies are vying for Mondex Canada's $2.3-million account. They are: Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, Harrod & Mirlin and Bozell Palmer Bonner. A decision will be made at the beginning of February. Mondex makes a stored-value card containing an electronic chip. The card is loaded with a cash balance which diminishes when the user makes a purchase. The system was developed in Britain. The card will be tested in Guelph, Ont. beginning in the second half of 1996. It will be available worldwide in 1997. The card is being marketed in Canada by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, the Royal Bank of Canada and Bell Canada. It could be used in fast-food restaurants, convenience stores, department stores, vending machines and even at hot dog stands.
