A HOW-TO SHOW FOR INVESTORS

A 13-week TV series providing ideas about what do with any money left over after buying groceries and paying the mortgage is hitting Canadian airwaves in February. Called the Art of Investment, the show will be carried by CanWest Global Communications stations across Canada, affiliates of WIC Western International Communications in Alberta and the CanCom satellite TV system - with a possible reach of 18 million viewers. A pilot of the series ran on educational television in B.C. last February. Produced in B.C., it covers stocks, bonds and mutual funds, stock exchanges and a variety of related subjects. According to a relese, it provides "user friendly information about investment services, products and markets and how investment activities are regulated." The shows will feature financial and media experts such as author David Chilton (The Wealthy Barber), financial columnist Mike Grenby and Hongkong Bank of Canada chief economist David Bond. In addition, the show will have a site on the World Wide Web that will expand on topics covered in the TV series, as well as running quizzes and contests and providing links to other financial web sites. The series was put together with the help of an advisory panel of financial sponsors, as well as regulators and other representatives of the financial industry. Industry sponsors include the British Columbia and Alberta Securities Commissions, the Canadian Bankers Association, the Canadian Securities Institute and the Vancouver Stock Exchange.
