COMPUSERVE OKAYS ADS

CompuServe began accepting advertising on its on-line service this month. The U.S.-based company did so because it faces a decline in revenue from subscription fees which are being forced down by competition. The advertising will take the form of buttons on a menu page which a user clicks to get information about advertisers. Prodigy Services has had billboard advertising on its service for several years. America Online started carrying ads earlier this year using the method CompuServe is adopting. Microsoft Corp.'s Microsoft Network has accepted billboard-type ads since it was launched in August.
