McDonald's begins McFlurry campaign
By Derek Winkler
McDonald’s Canada has begun a promotion to coincide with the 30th anniversary of its McFlurry menu item and the Toronto Raptors basketball team. Developed by Cossette, the promotion features a special edition item called the ‘95 McFlurry, supported with a campaign based on nostalgia for the 1990s. It includes a music video in the style of the decade, as well as three original hip-hop songs. The campaign is running on connected television, online, on social media, at the Scotiabank Arena and out-of-home takeovers. Media work is being handled by OMD. The songs are available on Spotify.
“Hip-hop has always been at the core of basketball culture, so tapping into it for the Raptors partnership and the ‘95 McFlurry just made sense,” said Jason Hill, executive creative director at Cossette. "It was important for us to craft the songs and video in a way that felt authentic to ‘90s hip-hop. I think it really shows in the execution.”
