American Express releases new Aeroplan card

Credit card company American Express has introduced a new travel card in association with loyalty program Aeroplan. Called American Express AeroplanPlus Reserve, the card is aimed primarily at frequent travelers and Aeroplan participants. It will give users two Aeroplan points for each dollar of eligible Air Canada purchases, and 1.25 points for each dollar of all other purchases. Other benefits include bonus points under certain conditions, as well as access to the American Express concierge and travel services, Air Canada priority check-in and Maple Leaf and Priority Pass lounges, among others. This is the first new card the company has issued since American Express and Aimia renewed their business relationship last year.

"The American Express AeroplanPlus Reserve Card is a great option for Aeroplan members who are looking for a more robust range of travel benefits and the ability to earn Aeroplan Miles quickly to get them to their dream reward goal," said Shauna Emerson O'Neill, chief customer officer for Canada at Aimia. "The launch of this card is a logical step for Aeroplan, based on the enormous success we've seen with our current suite of co-branded charge cards."
