Wal-Mart Canada hires J. Walter Thompson

Wal-Mart Canada of Mississauga has retained J. Walter Thompson as its advertising agency of record for English Canada. JWT won the account in a competitive review process that included an unknown number of firms. "JWT will be a valuable partner in helping shape our future public and consumer image in Canada, building on what has been established over more than a decade," said Vi Konkle, chief customer officer at Wal-Mart Canada. "From our price leadership and environmental sustainability to our commitment to the customers and communities we serve, we look forward to working with the team at JWT to leverage the Wal-Mart Canada story." The account was previously held by Publicis, which inherited the business from Wal-Mart's first Canadian agency, SMW Advertising, when Publicis acquired SMW in 1999. Allard-Johnson will continue to handle Wal-Mart's advertising in Quebec.
