DENTISTS ENDORSE PATIENT ED PROGRAM
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Dental Association gave its approval to a new patient education initiative sponsored by the makers of Crest toothpaste. Called CrestCare, it's the first such program to receive CDA acknowledgment and approval to use CDA's seal. Through a numerical scoring system, CrestCare allows patients to learn about the condition of their teeth and gums. After examining a patient, their dentist will give them a score of one to four. Each number represents a different dental hygiene program and offers patients an easy-to-follow oral care regimen. The CDA says that 90% of Canadians will develop gum disease sometime during their lives, but only 22% consider themselves at risk. The CrestCare program was developed by Procter & Gamble. Consumers across Canada are being informed of the initiative through a national TV campaign that began in mid-November. D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles of Toronto created the ads.
