ONTARIO SET FOR COMPUTER-LINK BINGO

The Ontario Lottery Corporation, charity groups and bingo halls are preparing to launch a new service that will allow bingo players in communities across Ontario to play for a province-wide jackpot of at least $25,000. Called Superstar Bingo, it will be launched early in the new year. The bingo extravaganza will involve approximately 200 bingo halls linked through a computer network. In a joint release, the OLC, the Provincial Bingo Charitable Activities Association and the Registered Gaming Suppliers of Ontario say Superstar's sales in the first year are projected to be $100 million. Forty-five per cent of the total will be returned to players, 22.5% will go to charities, 12.5% will got to bingo halls, 13% will go to the OLC and 7% will go to cover operating expenses. A TV campaign will support the service's launch. Promanad Communications Inc. of Toronto will be handling the advertising. The not-for-profit PBCAA is the voice of more than 4,500 charitable organizations that sponsor bingo events. The RGSO represents Ontario's gaming suppliers, including member bingo hall operators. The OLC is a crown corporation that operates lottery games in Ontario.
