Y & R COMES CLEAN WITH INGLIS ACCOUNT

Inglis Limited of Mississauga, Ont. has handed its advertising account to Young & Rubicam, Ltd. of Toronto. The switch to Y&R was finalized in mid-November. Cossette Communication-Marketing of Toronto had held the account for about two years. Senior Inglis officials were unavailable for comment, but Inglis corporate communications manager Carolyn Stacey-Wilson said the company had not been satisfied with the job Cossette had done. Y&R executive vice-president and COO Howard Breen told Adnews there had been no formal competition for the account, but added he knew Inglis officials had spoken to a couple of other agencies. Breen said Inglis general manager Dan Clifford knew people who had worked with Y & R and they recommended the agency to him. Clifford asked Y&R to make a presentation and hired the agency shortly afterwards. Inglis produces major home appliances, marketed under the brand names, Inglis, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Admiral and Roper. The company is also the exclusive supplier of Kenmore brand appliances to Sears Canada. Inglis is a fully-owned subsidiary of Michigan-based Whirlpool Corporation.
