Royal Canadian Mint breaks John A. Macdonald campaign

The Royal Canadian Mint has begun a campaign promoting the issuing of its new $2 coin honouring John A. Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada. The coin is part of a collection of coins commemorating the country's upcoming 150th anniversary in 2017. The campaign, developed by Cossette of Montreal, includes a 30-second television commercial featuring Macdonald as its narrator, describing his plan for the construction of a coast-to-coast railroad. The ad includes the tagline, "Look for it in your change," to remind consumers that the coin is in circulation. The campaign also include online banner ads, a collectable card and social media activities.

"With the launch of this coin, we embark upon a journey that will lead us to the celebrations surrounding Canada's 150th," said Patrick Hadsipantelis, vice-president of marketing and communications at the Royal Canadian Mint. "We are proud to debut the Canada 150 Collection by paying homage to Sir John A. Macdonald, one of the key figures in our history and a Father of Confederation. This coin immortalizes his memory and reminds us of the major role he played in building our nation."

To accompany the coin, the mint has also created a website at <http://www.mint.ca/canada150> that offers information about Macdonald. In addition, Cossette has released an online video depicting the creation of the commercial.
