Cable channel roundup

Cogeco Cable has begun broadcasting news and current affairs channel Al Jazeera English on its Cogeco Digital Television service. A free trial period began yesterday and will continue until Oct. 21. "The rapid pace at which Al Jazeera English has expanded throughout Canada is a testament to the great demand that exists for the channel," said Tony Burman, the chanel's chief strategic advisor for the Americas. "Since our launch in Canada in May, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback on our contribution to the existing media market." Al Jazeera English is also carried by Bell ExpressVu, Rogers in Ontario, Shaw Cable and Vidéotron Illico Digital TV.

Telus TV has begun broadcasting specialty channel World Fishing Network. The fishing lifestyle channel is available to Telus TV customers nationally, excluding Quebec, where the channel will launch later this year. "We are thrilled that Telus TV customers can now experience WFN just like millions of other passionate anglers across North America," said Mark Rubinstein, president and CEO of the channel.  "We commend Telus for identifying WFN as the best choice to satisfy the underserved community of fishing enthusiasts."
