Sponsorship roundup

Toronto-based Insight Sports has signed credit card company Capital One Canada as the title sponsor of the Canadian Open of Fishing, a competition that will air on the company's specialty channel World Fishing Network. "This tournament is a terrific event and a great opportunity for us to reach anglers and fans of one of the most popular sports in the country," said Ian Cunningham, chief operating officer of Capital One Canada. Shimano Canada of Peterborough, ON, a maker of fishing tackle, has signed-on as a presenting sponsor of the event. "As the presenting sponsor our job is to ensure that the fish are looked after and the fishery remains strong and vibrant," said Tom Brooke, vice-president of Canadian operations at Shimano. "We will be bringing equipment to the Capital One Canadian Open of Fishing that is state of the art and will help ensure this inaugural event is one of the best run in North America." The tournament will take place from July 25 to 27 in Sarnia, ON.

Grocery store chain Sobeys has signed-on as the presenting sponsor of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, which will take place in Halifax from Aug. 15 to 17. During the event, which is being staged by the IWK Health Centre Foundation and the QEII Foundation, participants will spend two days walking 60 km through various city neighbourhoods in an effort to raise funds for the establishment of a breast health centre in Halifax. As part of the sponsorship, all Sobeys stores in Nova Scotia will host fundraising activities through the summer in support of the initiative.
