WPP merges Cohn & Wolfe and GCI Group

WPP of New York has merged its public relations agencies Cohn & Wolfe and GCI Group into a single entity. The new firm will operate under the name Cohn & Wolfe and will be headed by CEO Donna Imperato and president Jeff Hunt. Cohn & Wolfe will also work with WPP companies Quinn Gillespie, a public affairs firm, interactive agency Schematic and specialty agency GCI Health. "This is the right time to bring together two very complementary agencies," said Howard Paster, executive vice-president of public relations and public affairs at WPP Group. "They have been close partners for the past few years and benefited from shared resources and integration. Together, and in partnership with Quinn Gillespie and Schematic, Cohn & Wolfe will be a powerful agency focused on delivering big ideas across all media channels." The merger follows Cohn & Wolfe's acquisition in April of AxiCom, a European firm specilizing in the technology sector. GCI Canada and Cohn & Wolfe Canada will continue to operate as separate companies and will maintain their usual operations.
