CARD TO BE TESTED IN LATE FALL

Mondex in Canada will begin testing its stored-value card with some consumers and merchants in Guelph, Ont. in November. A test across the entire city will start in the first quarter of 1997. The card is being marketed in Canada by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, the Royal Bank of Canada and Bell Canada. The card's graphics were designed by Toronto-based Harrod & Mirlin. The front shows a representation of 20 dollar bills. Each card also identifies either CIBC or the Royal Bank. Advertising plans for the card will be announced in the fall. It will be created by H&M. The card contains a microchip which allows electronic cash to be transferred in seconds through automated banking machines, public and personal telephones or from another Mondex card holder. The card will be rolled out nationally in early 1998.
