RAGU REVIEWED IN THE U.S.

The Van den Bergh Foods Company, a unit of Britain-based Unilever, has put its U.S. Ragu pasta sauces account up for grabs. The New York office of J. Walter Thompson will be struggling to hold on to the account, which it has had for eight years. JWT also handles Ragu in Canada but the Toronto office doesn't have to worry, according to Thomas J. Lipton president Jim Benson. He says the review doesn't affect the Canadian assignment for Ragu which is marketed in Canada by Lipton, also a unit of Unilever. JWT will compete for the account in the U.S. against two other Unilever shops: Ammirati & Puris/Lintas and Ogilvy & Mather, both in New York.
