CRAYOLA 'S 100 BILLIONTH CRAYON
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Binney & Smith is running a contest in which the grand prize winner gets to choose between a $100,000 U.S. bond and a crayon. The company is running a North American contest to commemorate the production of its 100 billionth Crayola crayon. Canadians can enter the draw by calling a 1-800 number and answering three questions: How many crayons does it take to circle the globe 240 times? To reach the moon and back 12 times? To stretch across North America from coast-to-coast, 1,900 times? A winner will be chosen in a draw for a trip to the opening of the new Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania. In the U.S., 10 boxes of 96 crayons each contain one crayon wrapped in gold. This one is the same color as the 100 billionth crayon: blue ribbon. The 10 people who find the special crayons will also be flown to the new factory. All 11 winners will be eligible for a draw on July 16, the winner of which will have a choice of the actual 100 billionth crayon or the $100,000 bond. In Canada, point-of-purchase advertising created in-house is promoting the contest which began this week. Public relations are being done by Hayden Communications of Toronto. Retailers are also announcing the contest in their flyers.
