U.S COMPUTER SALES GREATER THAN EXPECTED
By Adnews Staff
Personal computer sales in the U.S. will rise 23% in 1995, predicted U.S.-based International Data Corp. in late December. The research firm raised its estimate from 22%, which it had predicted earlier in the year. The causes for its optimism are a stable economy, the popularity of the Internet, the shift to Pentium-powered machines and product availability. Data Corp. saw Compaq Computer Corp. topping the list with 11.7% of the market, because of the technology included in the updated version of its Presario computer. Packard Bell would follow and Apple Computer would hold third place with 11.5% of the market. The fastest growing companies among the 10 largest computer makers are California-based Hewlett-Packard and Acer of Taipei. H-P recently moved to seventh place from 10th, and Acer to eighth from ninth.
