Staples Canada holds social media contest

Office supply retailer Staples Canada has begun an online contest conducted through Facebook and Twitter. Consumers can enter the contest by submitting photographs of themselves holding one of the company's "Easy" buttons. A randomly-selected winner will receive a Hewlett-Packard laptop and a collection of software, as well as a trip to Toronto to spend a day with the president of the company. "Canadians are a plugged-in society, and very much interested in anything to do with social media," said Jameel Lalji, innovation and business consultant for Staples Canada. "On Oct. 16 we launched our social network pages to inform customers about promotions and deals, and any social corporate giving news, as well as invite them to communicate with us. We've seen some great examples of people taking pictures with the Easy button around the globe. For example, it has been to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and in the delivery room while a woman gave birth. We want to see people be creative – maybe underwater deep sea diving or in a jet. Who knows? The sky's the limit."
