JUICES TOP THE LIST IN GROWTH

Sales in the dairy case isles of Canadian supermarkets grew 8% last year, according to A.C. Nielsen of Markham, Ont. Sales of chilled juices and drinks led the pack with an annual growth rate of 24%. Liquid coffee creamers followed with 20% and refrigerated pickles were third with 15%. Refrigerated dips and pickled eggs each grew 14%, and prepackaged cheese excluding spreads grew 13% as did yogurt products. Grated cheese had a growth rate of 11%, and cream cheese and shortening each grew 10%. Total dairy case sales last year were $3.5 billion.
