SIX SHOPS VYING FOR SCHNEIDER

Six agencies are at the Schneider Corporation table, waiting to see who will be served up the Kitchener, Ont. company's prepared meat brands. One agency that will not be served is MacLaren:McCann whose connection with the account goes back 40 years, to the now-defunct Foster Advertising. At one time Foster was owned by McCann-Erickson, one of the agencies that merged into what is now MacLaren:McCann. The latter was not included in the current review. One contender for the account is Weaver Tanner & Miller, an agency based in Kitchener, Ont. with an office in Toronto. The five others are in Toronto: Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly; Bozell Palmer Bonner Advertising; The Ongoing Partnership; Due North Communications; and Lowe SMS. Schneider plans to make a choice by the end of December. According to Nielsen Marketing Research estimates, Schneider spent $317,000 on national advertising last year, about $253,000 in television and the rest in newspapers and magazines.
