AD AND PR SHOPS HIRED FOR SPECIAL GAMES
By Adnews Staff
Two Toronto firms recently took over the advertising and public relations assignments for the 1997 Special Olympics World Winter Games. SMW Advertising and DBA Public Relations are now working for the international competition for athletes with mental disabilities. The two companies are doing their jobs partly pro bono and partly for fees. People from SMW and DBA have been working as volunteers for some time now on the marketing committee for the games. More than 2,000 athletes from more than 80 countries will compete in Toronto and north of the city, in Collingwood, in February of 1997. "The communications focus of the games will be on raising awareness of the abilities of the mentally handicapped and encouraging individuals, community organizations and corporations from Toronto and Collingwood to get involved on a sponsorship or volunteer basis," says marketing director Wendy Joyce in a release.
