Egg and poultry farmers open Downtown Diner
By Adnews Staff
The Egg Farmers of Canada conducted a promotion in Ottawa this week intended to highlight the work of Canadian farming families. A group of poultry and egg farmers hosted a temporary installation called the Downtown Diner that served a variety of foods made with Canadian ingredients, including three winning recipes from the 2022 Parliamentarian Recipe contest, during which MPs and Senators submitted their favourite dishes. In addition, Canadian poultry and egg farmers will donate $20,000 to Canadian food banks. Other participating organizations included the Chicken Farmers of Canada, Turkey Farmers of Canada and Canadian Hatching Egg Producers.
“Downtown Diner is an exciting way to put a face to Canadian farmers while showcasing why Canadian agriculture is so important for our collective well-being,” said Brian Bilkes, chair of Canadian Hatching Egg Producers. “Our food system is strong and will remain strong thanks to the support given to the next generation of farmers and the communities we serve.”
