Tangerine begins 20th anniversary contest

Toronto-based bank Tangerine has begun a national contest promotion tied to its 20th anniversary. The contest, called "Tangerine 20," invites consumers to nominate a local community initiative. The grand prize winning initiative will receive $20,000. The company will also distribute cash awards to four additional community projects. Consumers can submit nominations online at <http://www.tangerine20.ca> until June 16. Twenty finalists will be announced on July 6. Public voting will determine the five winners.

Tangerine is also offering a special promotion intended to attract new customers. Consumers who open a first account with the bank will receive an initial deposit of up to $150. Plus, the first 5,000 people to locate a hidden code number in the company's new television commercial can use it to open a new account and receive an additional $20 deposit.

"For 20 years, we've helped empower Canadians to achieve their financial goals by earning more, saving more and keeping more of their money," said Amy Cole, vice-president of corporate affairs at Tangerine. "To celebrate our anniversary, we're combining that commitment to Canadians with our BrightWayForward program to help a community initiative, like refurbishing a playground or planting a local green space, reach its fundraising goal a bit sooner."

Tangerine is a subsidiary of Scotiabank.
