Air Canada to launch in-house loyalty program

Montreal-based Air Canada has announced plans to launch an in-house loyalty program. The airline's current loyalty program, Aeroplan, is operated by Aimia of Montreal. Air Canada has stated that this contract will not be renewed when it expires in June of 2020. According to the company, the Aeroplan program will continue to operate as before until that time, and consumer will be able to redeem their accumulated loyalty points for air travel under the new program.

According to Air Canada, by operating its own loyalty program, it will be better able to strengthen its customer relationships and deliver a more consistent end-to-end customer experience. The company also stated that the new program will focus on improved rewards and recognition for the airline's customers.

"The new program, launching in 2020, will offer additional earning and redemption opportunities, more personalized service and a better digital experience for Air Canada customers," said Benjamin Smith, president of passenger airlines at Air Canada. "Similar to all of Air Canada's North American peers, by managing our own loyalty program we will be able to take better care of our customers by making decisions in real time that address specific needs."
