MAXI CEASES CIRCULAR

As of next week, the Maxi discount store chain of Montreal will no longer publish its weekly flyer. In a press release, Maxi marketing director Josée-Anne Morin says the chain is looking for ways to reduce its operating costs. She said that since Maxi offers permanently low prices and has no weekly specials, there isn't much point in having flyers. Morin estimated the move should save Maxi more than $6 million. Marie Bernier, vice-president, communications and public affairs at Maxi's parent company Provigo Inc., told Adnews some of the money saved would be plowed back into in-store activities such as food sampling. Maxi ceased publication of its flyer in the greater Quebec City region last March. The company said an analysis conducted six months later showed that the move had no impact on sales. Provigo also operates Provigo Supermarkets in Quebec and LOEB in Ontario and western Québec.
