Canadian Tire conducts youth hockey initiative in Iqaluit

Canadian Tire has begun a joint initiative with not-for-profit organization Project North and airline First Air intended to support young hockey players in northern Canada. The project involves the donation of 100 bags of hockey equipment to Iqaluit, NU. This is the first time Canadian Tire has undertaken a project with Project North, which encourages children to lead active lives. Project North has also become a member of Active at School, a group of 80 Canadian sports and health organizations headed by Canadian Tire and pursuing the same goal.

"Canadian Tire believes that sport helps build strong communities and we are proud to partner with Project North to donate hockey equipment to help get more kids in the game," said Michael Medline, president of Canadian Tire. "We're honoured to be in Iqaluit with Johnny Issaluk, who is passionate about sport and its benefits, and Project North, which makes it easier for youth to play hockey, a sport that we believe helps develop the physical and social skills that are so important to children's development regardless of where they play."
