First Air to sponsor Sedna Epic Expedition

Kanata, ON-based airline First Air has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with the Sedna Epic Expedition. The agreement makes First Air the official airline of the expedition, which is conducting research on Frobisher Bay in Nunavut. The airline will provide transport for Sedna's crew of ocean scientists, explorers, educators, artists, Inuit advisers, and their equipment to various northern communities.

During the next phase of the expedition, Sedna will conduct a satellite tagging and DNA collection program of Greenland sharks, using mobile saltwater aquariums and underwater robots. Sedna will also conduct a series of initiatives intended to introduce young Inuit women to ocean-related careers.

"First Air is key to the success of the Sedna Epic Expedition," said Susan Eaton, founder and leader of the expedition. "First Air's extensive experience in operating in remote areas across the Arctic will enable us to conduct scientific research and to deliver community outreach programs focused on ocean education and climate change mitigation strategies."
