Ikea donates furniture to Mount Sinai Hospital

Furniture retailer Ikea Canada has donated a collection of home furnishing and decor products to Mount Sinai Hospital of Toronto to outfit four self-care suites for women with high-risk pregnancies. The suites provide accommodation for women who may require immediate care due to a complicated pregnancy. Ikea provided beds, chairs, tables, shower curtains and wall art for the initiative, selected by interior designers and Ikea staff at four Greater Toronto Area stores.

"These hospitality suites allow women immediate access to care if they need it, without having to be admitted to a hospital bed as a patient," said Dr. Wendy Whittle, a maternal fetal medicine specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital. "We are very grateful to Ikea Canada for helping to make these suites function as a home away from home. These patients are already in a high stress situation, and anything that we can do to improve their experience is very gratifying."
