Rogers Media of Toronto has received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to acquire the Regina-based Saskatchewan Communications Network. The deal is expected to close later this month. The channel will be rebranded as Citytv Saskatchewan on July 1. The acquisition is part of a plan by Rogers to give Citytv programming more national exposure. By the fall of this year, the company expects Citytv to reach nine million homes in eight provinces. "This is a vital step in the evolution of the Citytv brand, as we continue to aggressively pursue national distribution for our world-class content," said Scott Moore, broadcast president at Rogers Media. "In this competitive landscape, it is paramount to expand Citytv's reach to better serve Canadians and engage audiences across the country. We won't stop until we reach our goal of becoming a fully national network."
