Rogers Media to buy Saskatchewan Communications Network
By Adnews Staff
Rogers Media of Toronto has announced plans to acquire 100 percent of Saskatchewan Communications Network and rebrand it as Citytv Saskatchewan. The deal is pending regulatory approval, with a decision expected in the spring. Citytv Saskatchewan will operate out of Regina with the current management staff and employees. The channel will continue to broadcast commercial-free educational programming between 6am and 3pm each day. The rest of its schedule will consist of local, original and acquired Citytv programming. "Acquiring SCN was motivated by our desire to expand our national reach for Citytv content, allowing us to more effectively compete with other national broadcasters," said Scott Moore, broadcast president of Rogers Media. "Rogers Media will provide ownership stability and financial resources needed to maintain and grow this service for Saskatchewan residents." No financial details are available.
