NIKE GOES LOCAL

Nike Canada gone very local with its latest ad campaign for its athletic shoes which started this week. Eight amateur athletes are featured in transit advertising that includes subway cards, bus murals and one painted bus. Three athletes are featured in TV spots: an 11-year-old female hockey player, a young runner who lost his leg in an accident involving a drunk driver, and a 63-year-old who only took up running this year yet managed to finish the 1995 Toronto marathon. Yesterday, Nike hosted a bus tour featuring "street athletes" performing at corners throughout Toronto. Advertising was created by Cossette Communication-Marketing's Toronto office. Public relations are being handled by Cossette's PR division Optimum Public Relations.
