MOVIE BILLBOARDS

Mediacom is planning to bring a new outdoor advertising system to Canada in September that could turn billboards - or walls, or any flat surface for that matter - into movie screens. This nighttime ad medium, called Projection Media, was developed in the United States by the San Francisco office of Foote, Cone & Belding. It can be used to show still ads or moving images. One of the first clients to use its will be San Francisco-based Levi Strauss, with the launch of its new Dockers Authentics line of slacks in September. Levis will be projecting a four-minute video on building walls during street rock festivals in six U.S. cities. In Canada, Mediacom plans to start selling the new ad medium in Toronto, and then take it to Montreal.
